It’s been almost 4 weeks since deryn had his transplant, where on earth has that time gone?

I try to find something interesting to write about as I am conscious of the fact that not a lot goes on really so I struggle sometimes to make things worth reading for you all.

Deryn has been having these silly little temperatures, not massively high spikes, just in the region of 38.1 – 38.2 but this is enough for them to be a little concerned. The Dr’s need to eliminate anything sinister so they did an Xray on his chest last week and then finally on Tuesday this week, they arranged for him to have a CT scan.

The scan came back absolutely clear which is brilliant and it also gave him the chance to escape for about an hour!

Deryn was not best pleased with his new mask but it’s something that unfortunately is a must if he is to leave the safety of his isolation room and venture into ‘The minging hospital’ – Not my words!

Deryn’s platelets are now 26 and stable, they’re growing slowly but surely and this is brilliant, he is engrafting beautifully and other than this silly temperature – globally speaking, he is doing absolutely fantastically!

Yesterday, Deryn saw Linda Robson wearing his wristband on ITV’s Loose Women – his face was a picture as he beamed from ear to ear!

It was lovely to see as Deryn really hasn’t smiled that much lately, he constantly feels sick so isn’t really in the mood to eat or drink but he knows that he must push himself through that psychological barrier and eat little and often.

Deryn’s consultant, Jackie Cornish has just been in to see him today and she is very impressed with his progress, she keeps reiterating that he’s doing brilliantly considering that this wasn’t a full match, he had a LOT of radiotherapy and it’s still very early days. She also reiterates that they cannot afford to be complacent so they are still keeping a very beady eye on him.

She is still concerned about this daft temperature so has put him back on anit-biotics for further 48 hours. She has also arranged for Cardiology to come and do and Echocardiograph to rule out any infection at the end of his Hickman line.

He does still have the adanode virus and it’s still present in his mouth so this could be the cause of the spikes, it could also be engraftment and it could be that they never find out but it’s infuriating as he won’t be allowed out of here at all if he’s still spiking.

Deryn spent a little while talking to his dad and brother on Skype last night…

Always taking life so seriously!

I would like to say a massive thank you to a few people -

Firstly to a lady called Chrissie Rayner, she read about Deryn in an old copy of the EDP that her neighbour had given her for her guinea pig Roly. She really felt for Deryn and wanted to help him out so she sent him a cheque for £100!
She insisted that he spend it on himself so he has decided to use it pay for things on his BMX and to go scuba diving when we eventually get to Greece. Wonderful lady….

Also a big thank you to the Watton Pantomime group who had a little collection for Deryn and raised £100! Brilliant work guys, thank you x

And last but not least, a lady called Louise Chapplow who has started to make bracelets for Deryn and is selling them on eBay – she has sold a lot already and sent us a paypal gift of £19!

Because of Deryn’s temperature spikes and the fact that his platelets are not quite high enough yet, there is little hope that he will get out this weekend.

He’s ok with that but he did say to the Dr that he needs to get out soon to see Ozzy!

This is unfortunate as even if he could get out for a few hours in the near future, we can’t get Ozzy up here and it’s not the best idea to have Deryn cuddling Ozzy right now.

Ozzy isn’t very well. He’s slowly losing the use of his back legs and his breathing is a little laboured. He’s soldiering on because he’s a fighter, just like his big brother Deryn but it’s not fair is it? It’s not fair to keep him alive if he’s in pain and suffering just because we don’t want him to go – it’s a selfish act.

I don’t think Ozzy will still be around by the time Deryn gets to go home and this has really upset Deryn as he loves Ozzy to bits, he’s his best mate.

Perhaps Ozzy knows that this is a good time to go, perhaps he’s looking after Deryn by going before he gets home because the house needs to be clean, really clean when Deryn gets home and this isn’t easy when you have a loving Staffie to contend with.

Might be a bit deep of me but I wouldn’t put it past our little Ozwald to give the ultimate sacrifice to keep Deryn safe xxx

He had always wished to be a Royal Marines Officer but being dealt a blow like Cancer (at the time, he only had one form) put pay to any chance of him ever serving in the armed forces.

The Royal Marines at Lympstone arranged for Deryn to spend three days there, they really did give him his wish and he was so chuffed to have been looked after so well (Not everyone’s experience of Lympstone I bet)

Watch Deryn’s Wish

Well since then, we have kept in touch with WO1 Richard Edge and although he has now left after 27 years, the WO1 who took over from him as carried on the contact with Deryn.

Richard Edge regularly calls and sends emails, he really took to Deryn and Dylan.

The Royal Marines have been a constant over the last few years, they have showed their support on many occasions – with pictures and posts from all over the world, wishing Deryn luck and spurring him on the keep up the fight.

It wouldn’t let me caption both pictures so props got to Tent Group 10, Yankee Company, 45 Cmd RM, Harstad, Norway.

Very recently, my wonderful friend RM Ross Hanranhan was about to complete his K2 culinary skills course at HMS Raleigh. He got in touch and asked me if he could raise some funds for Deryn.

Marine Hanrahan

To pass his course he had to cook a seven course meal for well over 20 Officers and other equally important people, he wanted this night to be a fundraising event for Deryn. I was blown away…

Ross raised over £160 for Deryn that evening and for that we are really grateful, he’s a great guy who I know will go far – I have known him since he was a gobby little 16 year old and now, I have the utmost respect for him. I am very proud of everything he’s achieved so far.

Thank you Marine Hanrahan

These last 12 days have been quite boring really, we’ve had some great conversations with new people that we have met on Twitter and Facebook. We’ve met some wonderful people, we are really grateful to all our new ‘friends’

Mum and Dylan came to swap with Dad.

On Tuesday, Dad moved into Charley’s house. This is a home from home that is funded by the Rhys Daniels Trust. It’s beautiful and so big…it really has helped us immmensly.

Deryn was pleased to see Mum again.

Well, we’ve had a few blips with the website so I haven’t been able to explain fully about Deryn’s good news!

It’s day 22 today and for the last few days, Deryn’s new immune system has been growing. Nothing had been confirmed until yesterday when I spoke with the consultant.

From around Day 10, Deryn has been experiencing the odd rash here and there and hee’s been a bit sick. His Neutrophils (these are a kind of white cell that fights infection and is the one they want to see growing)

The doctors were concerned because he seems to have a virus, they NEED him to develop and immune system BUT too much growth and he could develop Graft Versus Host Disease (GVHD)

Deryn’s Neutrophils were 0.00 when he had the transplant, his own immune system had been destroyed. After just 10 days, his neutrophils were 0.02!

After a couple more days, his neutrophils (Neuts) were 0.05, then up to 0.07 and then 0.2….

The following day, and knowing that Deryn had a virus – the Dr’s gave Deryn a drug called GCSF (this encourages the neuts to grow) This caused a lot of pain in this long bones and hips because of the over production of bone marrow.

They put him back on the morphine, this really helped with the pain. His mouth is still quite swollen and he’s finding it hard to eat but his throat is clear! He doesn’t have a sore throat anymore. This is brilliant! Those neuts are doing their job.

Deryn is feeling good

On Day 21, exactly 3 weeks after the transplant – his neuts were now 1.28!

The doctors came in and said those all important words that we had been waiting to hear since we got here -

THE BONE MARROW TRANSPLANT WAS GRAFTING! IT’S STARTING TO WORK!

This is brilliant news and I got very excited….

I have to be very careful now though as to not get too excited as this is now the beginning of the next difficult stage.

Deryn has managed to get through the last stage with quite a lot of ease, other than his cold sores, he has done really really well. I know they expected a lot worse from him because of the amount of Radiotherapy and Chemotherapy he endured before transplant.

So, now we must wait and watch out for symptoms of GVHD.

Like I said before, he NEEDS to grow this new immune system but if they don’t surpress it enough it can be fatal.

I will try and explain this as best I can, it’s not easy to get your head around but bear with me.

If you or I were to have a liver transplant then our immune system would see this new liver as a foreign body and try to expel it. Our immune system would try to detroy it and eradicate it from our bodies.

Well, with BMT patients – The new immune system belongs to the donor and sees Deryn’s entire body as a foreign body and tries todestroy it…all of it!

It could be as mild as itchy palms, sickness, rashes and a few temperatures or the other end of the spectrum, it can be fatal.

They will try to strike a very fine balance between growing his new immune system so that it can fight the virus and not letting it get too built up so that it tries to kill him.

We are right at the beginning of this new stage now and this is going to be hardest stage I think because they must get any GVHD under control before he can leave his isolation room.

Deryn said before transplant that he would be out of that room by Easter – he may not be far wrong you know!

In order to be allowed to leave the room – He must:

Be pain free

Not having TPN

Have a neut count over 1

Have any GVHD under control

Not have a temperature.

Deryns bloods came back this morning and his Neuts were 1.5 – it’s only getting better but I do have to be mindful that the higher these numbers go the more chance there is of a bad case of GVHD raising its ugly head.

Today, they took Deryn off one of the antibiotics because he hasn’t had a temperature for a couple of days and the cultures came back negative. Deryn will still be having a chest scan on Monday just to check that there isn’t any sign of aspergilis or any other nasty infection lurking in there. He is doing all the right things and it really has been miraculous!

He shouldn’t be doing this well, after everything they have pumped him full of and after the amount of radiotherapy he’s had – he really shouldn’t be feeling this good!

Deryn is feeling fabulous (a little bit sick but that’s about it)

Deryn really just wants to get out of this room now in record time and look forward to getting on his holiday. he hasn’t been able to travel with us as a family since 2010 and our last holiday was in 2009. It will be 5 years by the time we can go away but it will be well worth the wait I hope.

Everyone who has donated and raised money for us to help us through our hard time here in Bristol will also be the ones who ehlp us have the holiday of Deryn’s dreams. I cannot thank you all enough!

A big thank you to James Chard who has got this website back online, I would be lost without him…he’s putting a shop on here tomorrow so look out for it.

Thank you, please keep sharing and spreading the word about Deryn…

I’m old and forgetful, now what was I saying?…..

I have learnt during my life that is often best to admit when you are wrong, and more importantly it is essential to learn from your mistakes.

Sometimes it takes a gentle elbow in the ribs from a loved one to realise those mistakes, and it was a message from my beloved (Callie) that has prompted this post.

Callie very kindly pointed out that, whilst yesterday’s blog update was good, I had completely missed out a few things like our hand over, and more importantly Deryn’s run in with a toothbrush!

So here is my attempt to fill in the blanks.

Handover #1

During the conditioning phase of Deryn’s treatment he was very fortunate to have his family, consisting of his Brother Dylan, Mum and Dad, as well as his lovely girlfriend Kim living in Bristol for two weeks.

At the end of conditioning it was with a heavy heart that I had to take Kim and Dylan back home to Norfolk, leaving Callie and Deryn in Bristol post transplant.

Callie had decided that she needed to be at Deryn’s side for the initial two weeks immediately following transplant, which meant that by the time we were set to swap over, she would have been living in glorious Bristol for almost a month!

The day came to swap and I laundered and packed all of my kit for the journey, said farewell to Dylan and our dog Ozzy and started the long drive down the motorway.

Despite the long journey it was great to be reunited with Callie, because although we work really well when separated for long periods it is nice just to be able to have a hug and feel that everything is ok again.

When you live apart it is easy to get into a routine of just doing what needs doing and then getting to bed early ready for the next day.

However, being able to sit down in a restaurant (a great Greek restaurant called Entelia on White Ladies Road) and enjoy a meal and a glass of wine, and more importantly a conversation, was delightful especially as we had been apart for a fortnight.

The following morning Callie and I hit the gym, firstly to work of the wonderful Mezé from the previous evening and secondly because it is essential to maintain some sense of normality, other wise you will go mad just sitting in a room with a barely conscious child for company.

Once showered and changed we headed to the ward where I was really looking forward to seeing Deryn again after what seemed like forever.

When we walked in Deryn was wide awake and already hard at work on FaceBook!

He looked up and gave me a cursory “alright”, which is exactly what I have grown accustomed to. Deryn is a professional teenager after all.

Callie then proceeded to fill me in on Deryn’s routine whilst in isolation, which included detailed instructions on showering, laundry, personal hygiene (both for Deryn and I!) and a few other admin items like where to find towels, wipes etc.

Fun stuff over with Callie set off for a well deserved week at home with Dylan and Ozzy, leaving the big fella and I together for the first time in a long time.

Just keep smiling

Deryn is now accustomed to his Mum and I shoving a phone in his face for daily photos, and he never ceases to amaze me with how genuine his smile is.

The reason I am so astounded is that normally Deryn is never too pleased to be photographed on such a regular basis, but he now understands just how much his smile and his attitude helps others deal with their own issues. He really does inspire a lot of people, myself included, to keep things in perspective.

Op Toothbrush:

Deryn has never been particularly clumsy so to speak, but he does on occasion forget Newton’s Third Law (For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.)

In this instance Deryn was vigorously brushing his teeth (well as vigorously as you can when one side of your mouth is covered in ulcers!), when for reasons known only to him, Deryn lost his purchase on the toothbrush causing it to fly into his chest in exactly the spot where he has a particularly large scar.

This left his doubled up, part in pain and part in a fit of giggles, presumably at the ridiculousness of the situation.

Hearing Deryn giggling with a mouth full of toothpaste foam may not sound like much, but after all that he has been through it gives me a lift, as well as a chance to laugh too. (Insert laughter=medicine cliché here.)

Must try harder:

There isn’t much left to tell all of you lovely supporters, other than Deryn continues to make slow steady progress. He is keen to get out of isolation in time for Spring Half-term so please keep sending those positive vibes and messages, they really do help.

To everyone that sends in items from Deryn’s Amazon wish list, thank you as well because anything that has arrived so far has been gratefully received, and helps Deryn while away the hours.

I will try and keep you up to speed with plenty of photos and anecdotes too.

Thank you for reading and remember, keep a firm grip on your toothbrush! We wouldn’t want any copycat injuries.

x

Hello and thanks for sticking with us whilst the site has been having a little fit, due to the tinkering and tweaking going on backstage by our good friend and IT guru James.

Since we last updated there has been a change of Deryn’s staff, Dad has arrived and so has his starchy, humourless blogging style!

So stand by for turgid facts, medical reports and no funny business what so ever, not even a little bit.

Deryn and his new Bone Marrow.

Since Deryn’s transplant procedure over two weeks ago, we have all been waiting for the signs to appear that show that the bone marrow is grafting.

In the last two days Deryn has been sick and experienced rashes which go almost as quickly as they appear.

None of the medical staff have said that this is definitely Graft Versus Host Disease, but we are hopeful as the symptoms are similar and persistant.

Aside from sleeping, talking on the phone to his girlfriend Kim and watching films, Deryn’s day doesn’t change very much.

However the support he receives via FaceBook and Twitter is something that he really enjoys (he never lets his face know though! as he is a typical teenager in that respect.)

It is via Twitter that we have met so many wonderful supporters, one of these supporters comes from deepest darkest Essex in the form of Essex Divas.

According to their bio they employ Oompa Lumpas to hand finish beautiful bags which you can see by visiting their FaceBook page.

In typical DoEveRYthiNg supporter style, Essex Divas have come up with a way to raise money for Deryn.

Starting on Monday the 18th March we will be holding a week long PayPal raffle, at the end of which (Sunday 24th 7pm) Deryn will pick one of the PayPal payments at random.

The lucky winner will have a custom made Essex Diva’s bag made for them, and delivered.

To take part in the raffle simply make a gift payment of £1 into the DoEveRYthiNg PayPal (cablackwell79@gmail.com) account between Monday and Sunday next week, making sure to send it as a gift and to include the word BAG in the message section.

Essex Diva’s are refusing to take any proceeds for the raffle, for which we are all extremely grateful.

So please spread the word through friends and family, as all funds will go towards helping Deryn and his family during their stay in Bristol, and perhaps help to raise funds for Deryn’s dream holiday.

As a family we are all constantly staggered by just how much support their is out their, and we would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who sends Tweets and messages, they all help us get through the days.

First things first, I’d like to quickly update you on Deryn’s progress over the last three days.

He’d not really eaten anything for three days and things had kind of come to a bit of a standstill, very frustrating but we understand that it’s very much a waiting game.

He’s still been happy and upbeat although he hasn’t been smiling as much as his mouth is so sore.

A small ulcer, his throat and mouth are lined with these.

He’s been in a lot of pain but the pain team have been brilliant and review him each morning and ensure that he’s having his pain managed.

Still manages a little smirk

These few days are going to be really bad for Deryn BUT we are thankful that this is as bad as it is right now as we are more than aware, as is Deryn that it could be a lot worse. Deryn is so grateful that he’s not reacted as they thought he would and that this is all he has to deal with right now.

The Dr’s came in and asked him how he was feeling and Deryn’s answer was – “It could be worse”

Still brushing his teeth 3 times a day – mouth care is so important.

Yesterday was a much better day, Deryn was actually awake ALL day and he was in a lot less pain. He had a lovely present from his friend Connor – 18 Freddo Frogs!

The wonderful Linda Robson – I’m telling you, she needs a sainthood!

She appears on the ITV show ‘Loose Women’ and yesterday she was proudly wearing one of Deryn’s wristbands! This was amazing to see, it was surreal but absolutely wonderful for us and our friends and family. We are so honoured and so made up that she would wear it on TV for us to see.

Linda on Loose Women sporting Deryn’s Band x

Deryn was feeling really good last night and when I left him, he was still awake and watching a film – he was so different from the last three days, it made me so happy.

Much better after three days of terrible pain x

NOW FOR THIS ANNOUNCEMENT!

I’ve kept you guys hanging on for long enough haven’t I?

The wonderful man that is Paul Holmes – @flatcaptattoo has drawn an absolutely AMAZING caricature of Deryn. He is a very talented artist and has been commissioned by many a celebrity in his time, he gave up his free time and drew this totally free of charge AND he’s selling prints on his website!

All of the profits from the sale of these prints will go to DoEveRYthiNg! How amazingly cool is that?!

The prints are for sale for just £10 each – there are a limited number of these too so they are extra special!

<img class="size-medium wp-image-1111 " alt="Deryn's awesome caricature!
Please click on the caricature to be taken to Pauls website where you can purchase this wonderful print!

I am so so excited about this and so very honoured, it’s a wonderful gesture!

Paul has captured Deryn perfectly, his cheekiness and his personality shines through in this drawing…we cannot thank Paul enough.

Please visit his website and perhaps have your own caricature drawn by Paul or have one drawn as a gift for someone special.

Deryn has been quite down these last two days, mainly because his pain is so unbearable that they have been increasing his morphine slowly each day. This is making him very drowsy but he fights it and drifts in and out of consciousness rather than getting decent sleep so he’s exhausted.

He’s been constantly woken up in the night by nurses who are doing obs, this doesn’t usually wake him but because he’s not deep sleeping, he’s being disturbed – adding to his exhaustion.

Last night, once I’d left ( I thought he was asleep!) he rang Kim and cried down the phone at her. He misses her so much.

Well, Kim’s wonderful parents offered to drive her all the way here and back in one day just so she could visit him and try to cheer him up.

Deryn had no idea that she was coming, she arrived at the apartment and I walked with her to the hospital. I told Deryn that he had a surprise visitor behind the blind….

[media url="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o3CquKiH96g" width="400" height="400"]

Kim sat with Deryn for a couple of hours and I didn’t want to get in the way so I took the opportunity and disappeared off to the gym.

Now, I feel terribly guilty (That’s what happens when you become a parent isn’t it?) I have been to the gym every single day since Monday and I feel really bad for going but I keep being told that I shouldn’t feel guilty. It’s a great stress reliever and if I’m honest, the only thing I can control.

I go every morning before I come to the hospital, I’m in the gym by 7am most mornings and Deryn is always still asleep by the time I get here so why do I feel such guilt?

It’s Mothering Sunday today and although it’s not where I would choose to spend the day, I am always mindful of just how lucky I am. I have my two children, they are good children and love me a lot. I am so blessed to have such amazing children and I wouldn’t change any of this for the world. I have managed to talk to Dylan today and saw his cheeky little face on Facetime – Very happy mum.

I have many friends who will be spending today without their children, many of which were still just toddlers when they gained their angel wings and these mums are the most dignified, gracious people I know.

I am truly honoured to know them.

Deryn, half asleep

Once I got back from the gym, Lynn and Gary (Kim’s parents) took me to lunch as a mothers day treat. We went for a lovely pub lunch just around the corner from the hospital – it was lovely. Thank you so much for everything Lynn and Gary x

Kim had to go home at 3pm, when I went back to the room to collect her, this is how I found them – apparently it was Deryn’s way of preventing Kim from leaving!

Don’t go Kim!

When I came back from saying goodbye to Kim, Gary and Lynn, I was approached by the Dr. He wanted to talk to me about Deryn’s throat and mouth.

He explained that Deryn’s throat was now lined almost completely with ulcers and that his mouth was also very swollen and blistered.

He told me that he thought that these ulcers were likely to actually be cold sores (Herpes) Deryn has always suffered with cold sores and has actually been on acyclovir as a prophylaxis for the last 18 months. Apparently those who suffer badly from cold sores, suffer even more from mucositis and a lot of the time, the ulcers contain the herpes virus.

What they intend to do is increase his Acyclovir dose and see how he reacts over the next few days, they have increased his morphine and have been adding paracetamol when he’s allowed it.

I asked how his bloods looked, I know that a lot of these drugs and all the chemo/radiotherapy he’s had can have a detrimental effect on his kidneys, liver and other organs so I was keen to hear how his body is coping with it all.

His Platelets are up to 46 (normal number 150-400), his neutrophils (the white cells that fight infection) are still 0.00

I asked about his CRP levels as they have been slowly rising the last few days which would indicate an infection. The Dr told me that his CRP had actually gone down which is brilliant!

They are keeping a very close eye on his kidney and liver function tests now that they have increased the Acyclovir.

I asked how his liver and kidneys looked and was actually not surprised to hear that in fact his numbers are lower than a ‘normal’ child of his size and weight. His kidneys and liver have been totally unaffected by any of this!

The Dr is very pleased about this as it means that they have a lot more room for error when it comes to increasing his drugs…..

Onwards and upwards master Blackwell – keep on doing what you’re doing dude x

I want to share with everyone one day about Deryn and the way in which he has healed himself, astounded Dr’s from day one and how he really shouldn’t be here now according to the Dr’s but i will leave that for another day.

As for now, I am dedicating this post to my friends who are receiving and sending hugs to an angel today xxxx

Deryn has been keeping himself occupied, building things, making owls out of wood and talking to Kim – A LOT!

Unfortunately Deryn’s mouth has become very sore, his mouth is so swollen that his teeth have almost disappeared and his cheeks are all swollen. His throat is full of ulcers and swallowing is impossible.

As far as treatment goes, it has been quite uneventful still, he is responding amazingly well to the drugs and the lack of bone marrow.

The Dr’s have put him on morphine and a lot of it, he’s like a nodding dog most of the time but other than that, he is remarkably good spirits.

Last night, he did spike a temperature which worried me as i was back at the apartment over a mile a way and it was very late. He text me and told me that he was OK and they were running lots of tests. We are hoping that there is no infection as this would obviously cause some major problems BUT I know that they can deal with that here. I trust the team here implicitly and they are more than capable of anything Deryn has to throw at them.

Some signed cards from a couple of Daleks

Deryn is a massive Dr Who fan and was lucky enough to receive some signed postcards from Barnaby Edwards and Nicholas Pegg who both play daleks in the hit series! This really cheered him up!

THANKS GUYS X

Loads of goodies!

He’s still smiling and managing to shower every day

Today was a wonderful day!

We had a visit from an amazing woman today, I don’t quite know how to do her justice without sounding like an over familiar super fan….

Linda Robson of Birds of a Feather, Celebrity Jungle and Loose Women fame took several hours out of her busy schedule today to come and visit Deryn.

She was so gracious and she was so thankful that i had let her come and visit him, I was so very thankful for her to want to come. It was brilliant to meet her and she has been so proactive with raising awareness for Deryn. We will forever be grateful to her for all of her efforts.

Linda spent a good hour on the ward, unfortunately they couldn’t let her go into his room but the nurses kindly allowed her on the ward. She was amazed at what goes on here and was grateful to be able to see behind the scenes.

I really can’t get across in words just how lovely she was, it is so easy for someone with fame and fortune to write a cheque to a cause to make themselves feel better, but to give something that is so precious to them is truly honourable. Linda gave her time today and that is a selfless act.

She bought Deryn and Dylan a lot of goodies today, she asked about Dylan and recognised that siblings very often get forgotten – that was so thoughtful of her.

Linda didn’t come to gain brownie points of for a publicity stunt, she came because Deryn has for some reason touched her heart and she thinks a lot of him.

Just a few of the goodies that Linda bought him.

We went across the road and had a coffee together, we chatted for another hour and I learned so much about her and her family, she asked a lot of questions about Deryn and knew a lot about what he’s been going through. This said to me that she is genuinely interested and cares about him.

Deryn is looking forward to getting out of her so he can hopefully go and see Linda and the other birds on tour before they finish in June.

I suggest that you all go and see the show if it comes to a theatre near you because Linda is one of lifes saints, it’s always so lovely when someone you admire turns out to be a nice person.

Thank you Linda x

One of the Yum Yums

Deryn hasn’t eaten for a few days now and this morning his nose tube came up so they had to review whether or not they could risk putting another one down. The Dr’s decided that he will be having a tube holiday as it’s just too dangerous right now to have another one. So, they have started him on TPN (Total Parental Nutrition) This is a combination of different liquids that contain all the nutrients that would be found in food once it has all been digested.

Deryn did just order a beef and onion pie with chips and bread with butter! I think Linda has started off on food again which is brilliant, he didn’t eat a lot of it but it;s better than nothing at all…

Oh and I had a telephone interview with a magazine today too – very exciting! Watch this space!

Thank you to ALL of our new twitter followers and likers on Facebook – we appreciate every single one of you, without you all, we wouldn’t be able to spread Deryn’s story and his charity goals. Thank you again xxx
