On August 29th 2012, with just over a year left on treatment, Deryn was diagnosed with the very rare form of cancer called Langerhans Cell Sarcoma.
Deryn’s Tonsils had turned in to malignant tumours.
After some research, they had discovered that there appears to be only 5 other cases in the entire world.
There have been as few as 50 cases ever documented since records began.
As far as we are aware, Deryn is the youngest of the 5 alive at the moment and he is the only one in the world to have Leukaemia AND Langerhans Cell Sarcoma.
